Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and grew up in an ethnically diverse, multiracial family. Jacqueline's parents are Malaysian and Sri Lankan. Their father Elroy Fernandez hails from Sri Lanka. Her brothers are elder and two younger brothers. She was born and raised in Bahrain. Her parents had moved there in the 1980s due to the civil war in Sri Lanka. After completing high school in Bahrain she won a Scholarship to the University of Sydney to pursue the Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. In order to further her love of the world of languages, cultures and languages, she joined the Berlitz school of languages, where she was able to learn Spanish as well as improve French and Arabic. She was also crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6, 2006 and competed at Miss Universe 2006. In the aftermath of winning the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she stepped into the world of TV and anchored a show about Sri Lanka's business, called Lanka Business Report. Padukone (the child of badminton player Prakash Padukone) was born and raised in Bangalore. While still a teenager, Padukone was a participant in numerous national badminton tournaments. However, she resigned from playing when she made the decision to become a fashion model. Padukone has Mangalorean origins and speaks Konkani as her native language. Her lineage hails from Padukone village, which is located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District in the state of Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone is her father as well as a former badminton pro of international fame. Her mother is a travel agent.
